Almost since the inception of the charter school movement in Florida, Edwards Cohen attorneys have represented lenders, private developers, education service providers and not-for-profit corporations in the acquisition, financing, construction and operation of charter school facilities and charter schools. In the charter school facilities finance area, our practice includes public and privately-placed tax-exempt finance, traditional taxable bank finance, syndicated credit facilities, EB-5 loans, tax credit financing and other sophisticated finance transactions. In the real estate area, we have helped clients acquire existing facilities, as well as property acquisition, permitting, construction and leasing, for the operation of charter schools. We have also assisted clients with charter applications, charter contract negotiation, and operational matters. Edwards Cohen attorneys have drafted portions of Florida’s charter school act, on behalf of industry organizations, with hundreds of projects ranging from the acquisition and development of new school campuses, renovation of existing facilities, and debt reorganization.
